Synergie Environ

Hydro Group plc - Embedded Wind Power Development

The Hydro Group Plc designs, engineers and supplies high performance underwater connectors for the energy sector. With over 27 years business experience, the Group operates on a global platform providing total solutions to a portfolio of prime contractors, major operators, OEM's, defence agencies, defence organisations and the UK MOD.

As part of the development of a new manufacturing facility at Aberdeen Science & Energy Park, the company plans to install a medium-sized wind turbine to reduce carbon emissions and operating costs.  Synergie was commissioned by the Hydro Group to investigate the feasibility and cost-benefit of installing a wind turbine at the new factory development.

Key aims of initial work were to assess energy demand and required turbine output, to investigate and identify any planning and grid constraints, and to determine the cost-benefit of the proposal.  Results were very positive, and the project has now moved on to carry out a detailed wind resource assessment at the site.

A small weather station has been erected by Mirspot Ltd at the preferred location adjacent to the new factory to gather wind data, following which a detailed resource and financial assessment will be carried out.  The acquisition and analysis of accurate site wind data will provide a robust business case to move the project forward to detailed design and commissioning phases.
