Synergie Environ

Micro-Renewables North East England

Project Description: Synergie Environ were contracted by RENEW to deliver on-site renewable energy feasibility studies to a target of 50 small to medium-sized businesses within the project period.  Renew is tasked with facilitating the delivery of commercial energy and environmental technology projects across North East England.

The project aimed to provide impartial and objective assessments of a range of micro-renewable energy technologies. Site-specific support and advice was delivered to 52 companies, identifying potential cost savings of more than £815,000 per annum. It was estimated that the systems recommended had the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,600 tonnes per annum. Implementation of the recommended systems was estimated to be worth in excess of £5.8 million to the local renewable energy supply chain. Business demand for support from the project was clearly very high, and towards project conclusion demand exceeded the resources available to provide on-site support. This clearly demonstrated the interest small businesses have in investigating the feasibility of small scale renewable energy systems.

Synergie Environ has since assisted RENEW to assess the effectiveness of this and other previous related projects in stimulating practical change, and to develop a generic feasibility assessment tool for a range of renewable energy technologies including wind, biomass, GSHP/ASHP and solar thermal/PV.

RENEW’s Project Manager, Ben Collard said:  "The MRNE project exceeded our expectations in terms of outputs and deliverables within a narrow time frame. Synergie Ltd provided North East SME's with expertise across all feasible renewable energy technology and energy efficiency measures. Their commitment to timescales and attention to detail throughout the project was commendable."
